Moulin de Passais Lake

The Lake

Moulin de Passais features a five-acre lake fed by a natural stream, alongside a guest gîte and the restored mill that now serves as our home. The lake was likely created to support the mill’s operation, with both believed to date back to before 1705. Over time, the site has witnessed major historical periods, including both world wars, served as a water supply for the nearby village, and has since developed into a sought-after carp fishing destination.

The peaceful setting around the lake offers a quiet escape. You can sit back, take in the surroundings, and watch a range of birdlife while fishing for strong, well-conditioned carp.

A constant flow of fresh water keeps the lake in excellent condition. The stream feeds in through inlet and outlet systems, ensuring regular water renewal. A monk system is also in place, allowing deeper, silt-heavy water to be removed and replaced with clean, oxygen-rich flow from the stream. This creates a stable and healthy habitat for fish.

There are seven swims positioned around the lake. These range from shallow areas near Mill View to deeper sections by the Shepherd’s Hut. The lakebed varies between firm and silty spots, with established, tree-lined edges. Depths run from two to twelve feet, giving you flexibility across changing conditions.

Each swim is well spaced and finished with gravel for a clean, comfortable setup. Selected swims are designed for two anglers and include a carved wooden gazebo and picnic benches, ideal for longer or shared sessions. Wi-Fi is available across all swims, with multiple electric hook-up points around the lake.
