Periwinkle Carp Lake Rules

General rules for the site

  • Vehicles should be parked in the lake car park, unloading can take place at the island bridge and then returned to the designated parking area. A speed limit of 5mph should not be exceeded on the property or lake track.
  • Well behaved dogs are allowed please ask at the time of booking for conditions.
  • You are responsible for the supervision of all member of your party under the age of 18 at all times.
  • All litter and recycling should be placed in the bins provided. Litter and food waste must not be left on the island.
  • Please make sure you switch off lights and any electrical appliances when not in use.
  • Fishing bivvies only, no tents.
  • The island cabin is provided as a social area and for cooking, overnight sleeping is not permitted.
  • All cabins are strictly no smoking, if smoking outside please use the ashtrays provided.
  • Please treat the facilities with due care so that future guests may continue to enjoy them. If you notice something is missing or damaged please notify us immediately so that we can take the appropriate action. If there has been any damage or breakages during your stay, we would appreciate if you can report them promptly.
  • All inventory and fishing equipment supplied must remain at the property, we will inspect the equipment and facilities at the end of your stay and you may be charged for any loss, damage or extra cleaning costs.
  • No swimming in the lake or surrounding filter ponds.
  • A BBQ and fire pit will be supplied for your use on the island, please use the designated barbecue utensils and clean after use. Disposable BBQs and campfires are not permitted.
  • Fireworks and Chinese lanterns are prohibited.
  • Please respect us and our neighbours, the lake is surrounded by private farmland. No shouting, loud music or anti social behaviour.

Fishing Rules

  • All anglers are expected to be experienced and have intermediate to advance carp fishing ability in order to handle 60lb+ carp, we expect best practices to be followed in line with our guide which can be found here.
  • During spawning periods anglers must adhere to any request to stop fishing or to not fish areas where there is spawning activity. We cannot control when spawning may take place, this rule is necessary in order to reduce carp stress and to prevent foul hooking at a time when they are not feeding and vulnerable.
  • The supplied landing nets and weigh-slings to be used only, you must not bring your own.
  • Maximum of three rods per angler
  • Anglers must not leave rods in the water unattended.
  • No retaining fish for more than 15 minutes. No sacking of fish.
  • 0.35mm min line diameter, usually 18lb line.
  • No braid except for spods / markers.
  • No leadcore or lead-free leaders.
  • Minimum of 80cm tubing, no bare line above the lead weight.
  • Safe zone leaders acceptable.
  • Micro barbed hooks only, no bent hooks.
  • No fixed leads.
  • ZIG rigs are not allowed.
  • The use of The Magic Twig or similar devices are not permitted.
  • Fishing tackle used must be fit for purpose.
  • Baited rigs should not be left on rods when not in use.
  • Scales that exceed 55lb.
  • Bait boats are allowed.
  • House bait only, to ensure the correct nutrition is going into the fish. We will allow sealed, branded particle like Dynamite Spod mix. You must not bring boilie or pellet.
  • No tiger nuts between April and October.
  • Mouth and wound spray treatment should be used where required eg. Propolis
  • Fish must not be moved from the swim area. All weighing and photographs must be done in the swim area or in the water.
  • All fish over 40lb (and all fish over 30lb during the months April-June) must be weighed and photographed in the water. Please bring waders with you.
  • Fish should be transported in the sling provided. Under no circumstances should fish be carried in arms / not in the provided sling. Fish must not be carried in nets.
  • All anglers must be physically capable of landing, unhooking and returning a 50lb+ Carp correctly and safely to the water or have a companion with them who is able to do so.
  • Please ask on arrival should you require access to our lake rowing boat (no outboard motors allowed), life jackets must be used and children are not permitted on the boat.
